A factory sway bar is designed to limit the amount of side to side sway between the axle and the frame of the vehicle it is mounted on. It limits the amount of roll by transferring downward force to the opposite side of the axle, thus reducing sway. Every sway bar has a pre-determined amount of twist built into it by design. The thicker the sway bar, the less amount of twist is generated. This system works well if everything is within design tolerances.
OK, now that all of that technical...
I didn't really want to remove the rear dually's on my F53, the 12,000 GVWR on the rear axle was intimidating to say the least, but I did want to check the rear brakes anyway so I decided to take precautions. I found a coupon from Harbor Freight for 12k rated jack stands for 29.95 a pair. This in combination with my hydraulic levelers gave me enough confidence to go ahead and do the job.
After lifting and supporting the rear axle, I removed the dually's. I then performed a visual inspection...
I was called out to the motorhome from a pretty frantic DW who told me to come out to the motorhome and check out the water on the floor in the toilet compartment. I'm thinking what could it be, we haven't had a freeze this year so I'm expecting perhaps a loose clamp or something simple.
As I was walking past the motorhome to get to the door I saw a puddle on the on the pad but looking up I saw that the awning cover was shedding water. This always happens when we step inside the rig...
hi again people, well the mh. is really shaping up, finally came up with a name, most people call their rv. a girls name but im calling mine, WOODY, this is because when chevrolet built the sportscoach in 83, hand rubbed walnut was standard, the doors, walls and shelving are all hand rubbed solid walnut. after refinishing the woodwork and restoring back to its origanal beauty, i think woody is very appropriate. now that it is close to being done, i am getting camping fever big time. tomorrow im...
On my '97 f53 chassis, the air filter is hard to get to. It sits 1/2 way between the firewall and engine compartment. I had a service receipt showing it was replaced not long ago, so I have not removed it for inspection until I upgraded it today. I have worked on many cars and trucks and I never have seen an air filter this difficult to access. To remove the filter only, I had to remove the 2 front air box top cover screws from under the hood and then remove the dog house to access the 2 rear screws....
So far I have been very happy with my motor home. I have one issue that has been driving me crazy, the brakes squeak. I can't stand driving through a cg and hearing my brakes squeaking away
I have the full maintenance history on the MH and found the latest brake inspection showed "brakes ok" I decided to take apart the front brakes to assess the problem. I used the leveling system to place jack stands under the front axle. I removed the wheel covers and wheels, then I was ready...
we haven't left for anywhere yet, but i have really been enjoying piddling with my mh. the weather has been in the 60's-70's and is just perfect. i want to mention the irv2 site and how happy i am to have found it. each night, i have joined a chat with irv2 members and it is exciting and fun. the people checking in are really a great bunch of fun. the forums are very good and i have learned so much about motorhomes and rving. just really feeling good today and hopeing all who read this has...
well, had a good day to work on the mh yesterday, it rained all day, got alot done. the kitchen is finished, the bedroom is finished also. got a leak in the back of the commode to fix, then brakes and a tune up on the motor and the generator. it is really looking good.
well, i've had my coach in the driveway for a week now just doing touch up and making it prestine. now i'm down to my last challenge and that's the genset radiator reservior. it has a small leak in it and i'm tyring to figure out how to fix it without dropping it down to change the reservior. it doesn't slide out and it's maddening not to be able to get to it from the top. it's there with the engine cover bolted on and i can't get to it. i have a maintenance policy, but just not excited about...

well, been working on the sportscoach for a week now, it is really coming along well. i love the real walnut doors, and cabinets, have refinished a couple of the walls that needed it and polished the others. really looks good. now replacing the origanal ugly blinds with new ones and have painted the bath. love this good old mh. will popst picks soon.
When I purchased my pre-owned class A, I preformed what I thought was a thorough pre-purchase inspection. The one area I could have done better with was inspecting the rubber EPDM roof. I was not prepared to climb up and walk around on the roof, so I climbed as far as I could and looked across the roof. Seemed ok, I saw a few black spots in the distance, but figured it was probably mold or discoloration that would clean off.
After I brought the RV home, I purchased rubber roof cleaner and...
well here it is october, i've changed my oil, filter. genset oil, filter, transmission serviced and i can figure out where to go. i was all set to make up my mind two weeks ago, but put my meridian in the shop to check the info center not showing 50amp when hood to 50amp outlet. got that fixed and thankful i have xtraride. mh service left my bathroom lights on and drained my couch batteries and now that is handled. since winter is on us, i guess it will be toward florida. should be some nice...
well picked up my rv. yesterday and i must say it did real well, found a few things wrong, leak behind the toilet, brakes a little spongy, but no major issues, by spring we will be ready to travel.
