Ready to Roll

Posted 11-13-2009 at 05:16 PM by RVrescue

The old girl is ready to roll again. Unfortunately my Dad didn't live long enough to take one last trip in her. About the time we finished the roof, he took a turn for the worse and spent October at home with hospice. He passed away on October 30. We're taking his remains to Oregon for a memorial service on the 21st and we're planning on taking the RV for the trip. Any suggestions for Siskiyou Pass and the I-5 at Grants Pass? One of my son's suggested (only half jokingly) that we set his ashes on...

Adding stuff to the RV

Posted 11-04-2009 at 05:03 AM by Robsons

So far, I've purchased a tow bar (Blue Ox Aladdin) and a surge protector (Surge Pro 50A hard wired version).

Will be installing the Surge Pro myself since it looks pretty easy.

Looking for a good tow vehicle for our little crew which has a third row seat but is kinda old so that we don't care too much about getting it dirty and towing behind the coach.

3 months til we take off!!

Made it home from MN

Posted 11-04-2009 at 05:00 AM by Robsons

Well, we made it back to RI without hitting anything solid. The first few days were right out of a reality show; drama, action, high emotions and a happy ending.

First time I drove the coach was pulling it out of the dealer's garage and the first day of driving was over 12 hours long. Oy! That's a long first day. But the thing drove great and the family didn't seem to mind the long travel day.

Everything on the coach worked great except that the wipers went on the...

OK are you ready for this? Coffee Pot installation #3!
.
Black & Decker - Spacemaker - Model SDC740 - 12 cup.

Yes only on my rig would you see anyone go through 3 coffee machines but we love our morning coffee. Brief history, the original B&D unit started leaking and we couldn’t get any replacement parts for the water valves so we had to put it out of commission.

Extended Warranty Contracts

Posted 10-23-2009 at 01:28 PM by jcollopy

Beware of what type contract you sign. We purchased a extended warranty on our motor home at time of purchase in 2004. When our generator quit working and needed two ignition coils our "Easy Care" contact told us they were not covered because they were not included in the agreement. This is called an "inclusionary" agreement. The better type to purchase are "exclusionary". Basically on these if it is not excluded on the agreement it is covered.

In-Progress new roof

Posted 10-12-2009 at 12:39 PM by RVrescue

My husband and his buddy have been working on the new roof. As they started to remove parts, pieces, and wood (it really was that bad) they discovered that the top roof was glued to the insulation for the ceiling. Instead of pulling the old roof off, they've put more wood over the top. Lazily, I didn't take any pics of the process. It looks like it will be done in a week or so and then we'll be hitting the road again.
I'm excited as we've almost got her shining again. I've been working on...

Livin in the Clouds continues....

Posted 09-23-2009 at 07:18 PM by rplace

As Fall is fast approaching us here in western North Carolina things are getting rather busy around the Lodge and the Campground.
The zipline here has now been leased to Wildwater Rafting out of Bryson City, NC and will run now the remainder of this season and all of next season. Brett has gone to Bryson City and has been trained and certified as a "Canopy Ranger" for the new "Canopy Tours" (zip-line). Everyone is anxious for the new tours to start Thursday, September 24....

Rules for Owning a MotorCoach (Rule 4 cond)

Posted 09-19-2009 at 06:59 AM by -Gramps-

Rule 4: Owning a motor coach is a never-ending learning experience -- continued.

Well, I had so much fun coming up with a list of things that I have learned over the five years that my wife and I have been motorhoming, I figured why not write down a few more? So here goes:

I have learned that men need a precise set of directions when parking the coach.
And women know just how to give them. For example:

“I SAID STOP! STOP! DON’T YOU KNOW WHAT STOP...

If you have been reading my earlier blog entries, you know that I have said that a motor coach will improve your life, if you let it. I said it will improve your life in many ways. Your coach can take you to places you might not think to go to if you traveled like most “normal” people, carrying your bags and staying in hotels. It can also help you to make friends. Recently for Diane and I, our coach has done both.

This has been a rough year for the two of us. Mike, my...

Back by popular demand....

Posted 09-14-2009 at 10:43 PM by geaugeausmom

Hey, RonNBama. I was missed??

This past month has found me and Miss Gogo leaving the coast and heading eastward via Crater Lake and into Idaho. I have simply exhausted my supply of superlatives and hyperbole. Crater Lake is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The Serengeti at dawn in a hot air balloon has been denigrated to second place. As we drove around the lake, each stopping place seemed more beautiful than the last.

Being alone has its advantages....

First big decision made

Posted 09-13-2009 at 07:41 PM by Robsons

After a more than a year of researching, thinking and shopping, we have picked a 2009 Newmar 4154 bunk model as our MH. We'll be setting off in February 2009 DV for a 6 month trip with our 3 youngsters for our Big Trip Around the Country - that's the way we refer to it around the house.

Now have to arrange to pick it up in Minnesota which includes getting insurance, planning to get there and then driving home through Pittsburgh so that we can visit w my folks.

Should...
