Redwolf Journeys - Mods - EMS

Posted 10-04-2020 at 11:27 AM by Red Wolf

For the travel trailer and 5th wheel, we had a Progressive Industries 30amp EMS system that plugged in at the power pillar. For the Allegro, I wanted a fixed unit that mounted inside the coach.

The PI unit had worked very well for us, so I went with PI again, this time their EMSHW50C 50amp EMS system. They're pricey (~$500) but that's pretty good insurance to keep your rig from frying due to poor wiring at some campsite.

One nice feature of this unit is the remote display, so you don't need to go outside to see the power draw, or error codes.

Our power bay small, so I mounted the unit in the top right rear of the bay. It took about three hours for the job, cutting the power cable that runs into the RV's transfer switch, and splicing this unit between the power and the transfer switch.

I had hoped to put the little display up in the cab with the other power stuff, but nope - PI says max distance is 20'. I ended up drilling a hole between the power and water bays at the top and ran the wire there, and then pulled it into the rear bedroom closet area along an existing cable pathway. From there up into the closet.
