The Purchase

Posted 09-01-2016 at 09:13 PM by rjc2272

“Hey, April……..what about something like this?”

Words that forever will change our lives. No, it wasn’t clothes shopping or dog shopping it was that question that got her looking at the RV we have now and not the 17th camper trailer that I couldn’t pull with my truck. Since we had finally committed to getting something we had been looking for a while at pull behind campers but couldn’t ever really agree on one that would also fit our budget, kids, friends of kids, truck size (yes, I said TRUCK size because size really does matter in areas like towing and other stuff – pull mind from gutter now).

While getting ready for bed one night I happened to be looking on Facebook and the first post on my phone was by my wife’s cousin who had posted a pictures of a what is now our RV for sale. After getting my wife to actually stop the nightly bed time routine with the kids and look at my phone I sent her cousin a private message asking about the RV. It ended up being her ex-husbands (still friends, get along great have never figured this one out) who was selling it. He had purchased it a little over 5 or 6 weeks prior so that he could live in it while his house was being built on his property outside of town. He had already sold his other house and was getting ready to move into an apartment when he stumbled across the RV

(Side story or the story within the story – the guy who he had bought the RV had just returned from Colorado where he had been living. This gentleman had lost his job so he packed up his house in a 28’ car trailer and drove back to Kentucky where he was from. Once he got their he realized he had no use for the RV and needed money more than the RV so he sold it. From what I can tell this RV has been used a lot – Chicken Alaska is the farthest North it has been. Not sure how far South, heck Kentucky could be South to whomever had it before who knows)

Back to the story – after purchasing the RV he took a trip with his son to see family up in Michigan and realized on the trip that while he would be ok living in it for 6 months his 12-year-old son would need a little more privacy that then pull out couch. So, he posted it for sale and was either going to just keep it and take it to Florida or sale it and hope someone could get some use out of it since he wouldn’t as much with his travel schedule for work.

So, after getting in touch with him and driving down to see it (and drive it) we started the process of getting it. It took a few more weeks for my wife to get on board with the idea but once she was able to see how much the kids loved it and the amount of use we really would get out of it she was hooked. Now, she might have second thoughts the first narrow bridge we go over or the first time she goes with me to fill up the tank with gas or – that moment when you really do have to empty the black tank but for now it is game on.
