Taking our Tuscany home

Posted 03-25-2021 at 05:36 PM by Rwbrown3

So after purchasing our RV and finally getting out of the finance office we were on the road, late in the day mind you. Neither of us had ever driven a 40 foot motorhome, except for the test drive back to the dealership. I would add that it was very intimidating at first, a lot of low speed wobbling down the interstate, I felt like I was going to butt my head against every overpass! We drove from Tampa Florida back to Homer Alaska, by the time we were in somewhere in the midwest driving was pretty easy, one handed 70+ miles per hour, easy peezy, look mah, no hands!! As our fuel mileage crept lower and lower I decided to throttle back to around 65, keep both hands on the wheel for safety sake and just chug along.
I found we really made up a lot of time, as my wife could make sandwiches and meals while we were rolling down the road, her bathroom stops are more frequent than mine and those were eliminated. We really could average 55 or 60 mph all day! Our coach has a range of about 800 miles, I'd stop for fuel just under half a tank. We easily carried enough water and propane to get us to Alaska without refilling. I quickly fell in love with coach.
