Tuesday November 4, 2014, Whatever will be...the trip continues.
Yesterday we found ourselves in the northern California mountains. It was quite the view coming up on Mount Shasta. A large looming volcano all by itself covered with ice and snow.
We arrived at Mt. Shasta RV Park around 4:30 pm only to find the office closed. I had spoken to the office at 3:00 and told them we'd be in in about an hour. They said that with the California water shortage we could get a campsite for $29.00 if we really needed water. Since our holding tank was pretty dry I said we'd take the $29.00 spot. She said fine and see ya soon. Then we get there and no one was around and I found a self check in envelope in a mailbox. We tried calling the office again only to have to leave another message. After waiting about another 1/2 hour we decided to just grab an open site and live without water. We never did get a call back. So needless to say I,(Trish) was nominated to go to the office first thing in the morning to find out what's up with the checkin deboggle. Bill said he didn't want to take the chance of getting arrested for showing how pissed off he was.
The trip through the mountains was quite exciting for Bill. Not so much for the co-pilot Trish. She has always had a bizarre fear of flying off the edge of a mountain cliff. So without any Xanax or alcohol she managed to make it down the Grant's Pass run without tearing off the leather to the co-pilot seat.
So, today it was on to Sacramento to visit Richard and Kathy, Bill's brother and wife. We are just booking down the freeway listening to the Eagles on the CD player when I decided to enter the address into the GPS. After all, Roscoe has been doing quite well these last few days and we just felt like we were on a roll. Upon putting the GPS back into it's cradle Trish must have hit the screen and the route changed. We are now getting close to Roseville and the GPS is not directing us in the correct direction. The downtown outline of Sacramento is coming into view and Bill decides to actually pull over into the wide spot of the interstate on ramp and recheck the GPS. Sure enough we were heading past good ol downtown Sacramento again just like last year.
He said, "Not this time bud" and we made a u-turn (at the next off ramp) and we were heading back in the correct direction. Roscoe (the GPS's name) can be so demanding and frustrating, but this time it really was operator error (Trish to be exact).
We plan on being here a few days to get our bearings and brainstorm up some trip plans for an exciting San Francisco adventure. Will keep you posted.
Keep on keepin on....
