Out & About in Colorado

Posted 07-05-2009 at 01:17 AM by YehtiCoPilot

This being my first blog post, bear with me.
We've pulled the Yehti out early this year now having taken 4 trips within our home state of Colorado. DH & I are exploring a state we've lived in for more than 20 years.

Our first roll out was in early May to 11-mile reservoir ...it was a disaster! It rained from the moment we arrived to the moment we decided to bag it in 3 days later. The BUGS WERE BIG! Looked like overgrown mosquitoes! They were around by the thousands. The ground around the campsite reminded me of my grandmother's farm fileds -- COW PIES EVERYWHERE! Can't even begin to think about the flies in August

The campsites were less than special..gravel & level but no separation or privacy. No trees. Lots of cow urine.

The reservoir itself was lovely & had some beautiful bird species but watched through binocs from within the rig. The hearty souls who tried to fish came back fast & empty handed -- 40 degrees & a 30 mph wind will do that for ya. Did get caught up on some reading and got to spend catch-up time with DH but our outdoor recreation was limited.

So we decided we would head for home and cross 11-mile off our list of places to return.
