2001 Winnebago Adventurer Microwave Lights - Problem
2001 Winnebago Adventurer 32v
My unit has a factory Sharp Carousel Model R1480 Microwave.
On the Control Panel there is a 'button' for a Nite Light AND a Work Light.
These have BOTH quit working.
I have tried new bulbs and nothing light up.
Maybe I have a Control Board issue, maybe a fuse that is hidden from me, but I thought would check in with the Forum and see if anyone has any ideas.
Tried to see if I had and 110v to the socket but was not able to get any current.
I have not disassembled the microwave yet.....waiting to see what the forum guys may recommend.
Thanks for your time to reply.

Thanks,
Everything else works as designed.
Light, turntable, timer, etc. All work perfect.

Hi
I replaced my own control board in my microwave a few years back now, based on what your saying it sounds like its a fuse issue or a loose/ disconnected wire. If you email sharp tech support they may be able to tell you what to check. Its also possible that the push pad switch is faulty but I would go for the fuse or wire issue.
PS the email worked for me really helpful.
Good Luck

the MW Bulbs are 120v, not 12v. are you sure you have the correct bulb?

Yes,
Was sure to get the 120v bulbs.
Looks like no electric to the sockets.

checking the sockets with a volt meter should establish that.

OK, here is where I ended up.
Plugged in the microwave to 110v.
Did a bench test in the 120v bulbs, all light up when energized.
Dropped the "Bottom Pan" under the microwave to expose the two bulb sockets, much easier access.
Ensured that the Neg and Pos Socket terminals were able to contact the bulbs when inserted. All OK.
Using my voltmeter, I was able to confirm 120v at each socket WITH NO BULB IN THE OTHER SOCKET. (Both sockets empty).
When a bulb is inserted into one of the sockets, the other socket reads 0v and the light IS NOT Lit.
Pressing the "off/on' switch has no effect on the bulbs lighting or the current to the sockets.
Thinking maybe there is an issue with the 'push pad' panel or more.
So, any advice from here is appreciated.

hmmm. inserting either bulb into either socket causes the other socket to read 0v? does the bulb light up?

Bulb does not light, either socket.
As stated. When I check the open socket, volts are '0'. No light.

that is truly weird. i agree with your assessment...problem with the touch pad seems most likely.

As I had previously mentioned that possibly the push pad switch could be faulty its sounds like your comfortable using a meter you could check the push pad switch on an Ohms setting to see if switch changes state, also if you can access that switch you could try jumping it out but if the Ohms check doesn't show switch changing state chances are you'll have to swap out the board. Again if you contact Sharp they can probably advise on a replacement or fix.
Good Luck

UPDATE:
Contacted a Sharp Service Facility.
Talked to a very knowledgeable electronics technician.
He took the time to go and review the wiring diagram of this 20 year old microwave.
Called me back.
I have a faulty Solid State Relay on the Control Board.
I would have to remove the microwave from the motorhome to access this board.
So, now that I know that it not a bulb or something I can get at to fix relatively easy, I am going to live without these lights.
Maybe at a later time when I need something to do I may look at this again.
Thanks for the replies.
