2003 Horizon Cat 330 Low water alarm

Hi Folks,

Coming back from a trip this weekend in my '03 Itasca Horizon, the low water alarm came on after a few miles. I might have seen this pop on briefly in the past, but not for some time always very brief before. This time it stayed on solid. Coolant temp seems okay, sticking to about 170-175. The level in the overflow tank was down a bit, well below the MAX line, but above the MIN line as well. I added some coolant to see if it changed anything, but it didn't and I continued on my trip home since the temp was holding in the normal range.

When I got home I added a substantial amount of coolant mix, like 2.5 gallons since the level wasn't rising much in the overflow tank when adding it. It didn't fix the warning and when I stopped at the gas station it was leaking coolant, though I could not tell from where.

I found this post which sounds just like my problem and I'll inspect the sensor and replace it if that is the problem, but I'm wondering why my overflow tank level didn't change appreciably when adding that much coolant and it started leaking like that. Was I supposed to open a valve when adding coolant through the OF tank?

Thanks!

If you have a leak , that's the first issue to deal with .

Can you get under the coach ( using all safety precautions ) to pin point the leak ?

Coolant temp seems low too, might have regulator(s) staying open.

You may be onto something. I had the temp gauge replaced at one point (the old one died) and I swear it's always run around 175, but that would be a little low. I don't know if the thermostats have ever been changed since I'm the 3rd owner and purchased it in 2014 at 24K. I have 42K now. So perhaps they have never been changed and it's time.
