40 amp coach battery breaker tripped

I installed a powermax converter rated at 55 amps. Will this cause the 40 amp breaker in the panel to trip since the orginal converter was only a 40 amp converter?

Only if your usage exceeds 40amps.. remember, the fuse rating is based upon the ampacity that the primary wire will carry, not the amperage available behind it. You will be fine just as before changing the converter. It is also good to upsize on converters so that you aren't consistently using them at their rated output = longer life, runs cooler.

If the batteries get low enough to take over a 40 amp charge yes the breaker will trip. Verify the size of the cables going from the converter to the batteries match what is specified in the chart that came with the converter and if they are in spec you can simply just change out the 40 amp breaker and replace it with a 55 amp breaker. If not then you would need to change both the cables and breaker or just leave things as they are so it will trip if the batteries get low enough to take over a 40 amp charge.

The gotcha is that most times you will not be aware if that breaker trips until you unplug and find your batteries are not charged. This happens to me when I have left the coach in storage for an extended period of time and the batteries need heavy charging to bring them back up and the desulfate cycle runs.
