I have air horns on my 2003 Chieftain on a W22. The problem seems to be the 12 volt air switch. When they don't work I have to tap the switch with a hammer. Today they did not want stop blowing and I had to tap the switch to make the horns stop. I wonder if moisture gets in the reserve tank and works its way into the air switch?

Anyone with similar problems or suggestions? I would sure like to hear from you.

Don, you have a stuck/dirty air solenoid. They can be removed & replaced, or you can generally take them apart & clean 'em up yourself. Use a little scotchbrite and some lubricating oil (preferably not WD-40, but like 10w30). When you get it apart, you'll probably find corrosion and rough areas that inhibit the valve slide action.
Also while it's off and you've got the air system shut down, try unmounting the air tank and turning it upside down to drain any water/rust in it. It's a shame they don't make most tanks with bottom bleed offs to take care of this. A common issue.

Thanks troth;

That is what I suspected. I have never seen a compressor attached to an air tank that did not have a drain **** on the bottom. Poor Engineering

Today I removed my air tank and cleaned out the rusty water and sludge. I also cleaned the air valve. Everything works good now. When I have time I am going to see if I can have a drain valve welded in the bottom of the tank. I could periodically drain off the water.

....or just keep the outlet hose attached with a reversed quick coupling which you can blow down once in a while just by unattaching the quick connector.....geofkaye
