We were got off guard with a 70 mph wind gust with our Itasca Horizon 2002 awning down. It ripped 24 inches next to the metal guard. Our dealer is quoting $400 plus $200 installation to replace. Anyone have any leads on a replacement for less or how to repair??

If your awning is woven acrylic roughly stitch the awning by hand and then go over the repair with liquid stitch. Liquid stitch is water proof and dries clear. It is available in the fabric or craft department of Walmart. Liquid stitch is used to mend clothing and it'll hold up going through the washing machine.

I did this repair on my old Vectra's woven acrylic awning and it worked very well. I had a tear about 8" long where the fabric met the aluminum metal guard.

Liquid stitch also works great for pin holes in woven acrylic. I do not think it will work on vinyl.

Keep checking around at local dealers. I had the same type of problem with my awning. I had a canvas maker willing to repair the old awning, but I had to remove it first. I contacted a local dealer to arrange the removal and replacement labor. When I arrived they offered me a brand new awning (previously ordered by another at the wrong size, but perfect for me) with metal weather guard for only $80 plus the labor. I ended up with a brand new awning for just under $200. At the same time we discovered significant wear on the ratchet assembly, so had it replaced at the same time. Keep checking, it may be well worth your time.

I have same issue - got caught in a big gust, it broke the alum fitting at the top couch, and when that happend, I got 4 ft tear in the acrylic awning at the stitching where is connects to the metal guard.

It seems to me that with a 1" or so strip of canvas or acrylic with a heavy dute stiching kit - like sail stiching kit - would do the fix.

Does any anyone have experience with this repair?

I have replaced the rod already, and it seems a waist to throw away and otherwise fine awning with no holes etc., just the tear right along that seam.

Thanks, Jeff
