Basement AC issue then better than new
So having had the motorhome for over 6 years new the ac acted up this weekend at the Indy 500 at over 93 degrees in the dead sun.
So i have never had an issue with this unit not once opened it up i could clearly see on the of the capacitors was done (looked like an exploded micro hotdog) and the wires coming off this other thing had been really hot( turned out to be a hard start relay).
Cut the power and pulled one of each and headed off to an HVAC supply house.
Got new better parts for both compressors put back together in about 20 minutes the new ones are lot larger than the old ones.
Anyways repaired and back running for $38 in parts and an hour drive.
If you have fear of the basement AC units they are basically the same as home package units and i would not hesitate to by another one.

Thank you for relating your experience. Once it's understood these Coleman-Mach basement heat pumps are made like a household unit, it's like lifting a fog. In fact, the only difference is, the Coleman-Mach has 2 compressors (24,000BTU total) operating in tandem, #2 will not run if #1 is not running, #2 cuts out when the extra cooling/heating capacity is unneeded; whereas a house unit would have 1 24K compressor.

Yes, like a home unit. Don't take it to a RV shop. All they know how to do is swap roof units. Cantact a regular residential air conditioning tech. One they see it they will know what to do.

Any chance you could post a picture of the capacitor and start relay and post it for us. Or maybe just the part numbers. I would love to grab a couple of spares for when mine fail and im in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for the input, I just ordered the dual cap, and I have
the hard start cap for sum time. When I get the dual cap in
I will install both items in a 16 Yr.old Coleman H/P...coopcolt

I have a question for fellow Coleman Mach owners. I have a 2004 and notice when Im lying in bed with my head directly above the unit I can hear it oscillate. So the hum frequency oscillates but the RPM doesn't change. Its not speeding up or slowing down if that makes sense.
It runs fine, I just have never noticed it before. I just realized typing this that the second compressor was running and usually when I go to bed it doesn't have to run the second because the difference in set temp and room temp isn't that great so it doesn't call for it to run.
Maybe I was just hearing the two compressors running and the frequencies being slightly different? I have repaired equipment since the 80s and the best tool for identifying trouble is often your ears. Not sure if its a problem or just a characteristic of sleeping above your AC.
I love the basement unit. I hope I never have to do without it.
BTW the fan isn't making any noise. I ran it by itself.

I was wondering if anyone has used a laser temperature gun at the roof registers to measure output temperature? What is expected for a properly operating unit?
