Breaker off causes "Brown out" and water/engine heater breaker reversed.
I noticed that my breaker labeled "water heater" does not interrupt power to my water heater but my breaker labeled "engine heater" does. I have not checked the engine heater power to see if the breaker labeled "water heater interrupts its power but I suspect it does.
While trying to figure this out I also noticed that when I turned off the water heater breaker the L1 shows only 8V on the Power Line Energy Management System (EMS). If I turn off the engine heater breaker the L2 shows 8V on the EMS.
With either breaker off there is no "Brown out" or low voltage on any circuits so this is false information. I suspect the voltage sense for the EMS is connected to the wrong place.
The EMS properly controls the water heater, turning it on/off from the control panel and shunting it if necessary.
Anybody have an experience like this or suggestions? I have the EMS installation manual and will probably dig into the panel when I don't need AC, hopefully in a few weeks.

Sounds like they are miss labeled is all.....it would be easy to figure out with the use of a multi meter......
When you say the EMS reads 8v........do you mean 8 amps of power draw? You should see voltage for L-1 and L-2 around 120 VAC.......

My power panel reads amperage, not voltage. I don't think you are having a brown-out, BUT-- it sure sounds like the breakers for the engine heater and water heater are swapped. A good voltage meter will determine if you are or not. Nothing runs on 8V.

I have an Intellitec EMS system. It uses the washer/dryer circuit to provide power to the load center. Everything works but there won't be anything showing on the load center if this breaker isn't on. In my case the EMS system controls AC1, AC2, Water heater, and washer/dryer. Each of these circuits are wired through a circuit board with relays that interacts with load center to monitor total power consumption and limit usage based on a predetermined hierarchy. In my case it is programmed as above with AC1 being the first.
The water heater also relies on a 12 volt to 120 volt relay to use the 120 volt circuit. The water heater has a 12 volt switch that controls the electric side of it. This switch sends a signal to the relay that engages the 120 volt circuit.
Once you understand the circuit it's actually pretty simple.
