Cargo Door Latch Replacement
I have to replace a cargo door latch on our 2003 journey. It is called a "bolt-slide with plastic plunger". I have the latch and a rivet tool. Does anyone have knowledge of this procedure?

Extremely easy to do. Get new aluminum plunger latches from RB Machining in Palmdale Ca. Once you put one of theirs in you are DONE ever replacing it again. You remove the square panel from inside door that has busted latch. Drill out the rivets from old latch. Tape feed cable on inside end of pull rod. Pull the rod out thru side of door. Attach new latch to end if pull rod. Use the string to "pull" the rod back to center of door. Pop rivets in new latch. Attach rod in center door panel. Lube with WD40 or grease. Reattach center panel. I live in Alaska and every time you slam a door in cold weather, one busts. Have probably changed half of mine by now. People at RB Machining are a family outfit and very easy to deal with. Good Luck, not a big deal.

What Mark said ...
It will probably take you longer to get out your drill, pop rivet gun, and string (and to put them all away) than it will to replace the latch
A job started ... is half done

I've done 3 of mine now and I have 2 spares and 2 rebuild kits on board. Somewhere here I have a post with pix. I would not be using WD40 tho as it is not a lubricant. The RB Machining latches come pre-greased, and the rebuild kits have a small pack as well.

Thanks so much. I have two replacements from Winnebago, so will probably use those before purchasing the aluminum type.

I have replaced 2 of mine with the oem plastic type over the years and they work fine for me. Not allowing them to slam shut helps. I lube them w/ spray whithium grease periodically. I can see them being more fragile in Alaska as extreme cold weather can make even metal brittle!
