Anyone else had this problem. Returning home last week, the check engine light came on . The engine went to idle and I could not increase the rpm's. Had to get off the freeway quick!! The light would clear when turned off and back on.
Called Cat service and was told to get it to a service center. After 4 days of troubleshooting they decided the wiring harness between the throttle pedal and the ECM mounted on the engine must have a break in it. The problem code was 231-12, description: J1939 device not responding. Anyone know what this code is?
Cat said it's a Freightliner problem, so now I have to get it to Freightliner shop and hope they can find the problem. I haven't had many problems with this MH but when I do it's always complicated . Just venting . Thanks

I haven't had the problem Gary, but what I would do before having it towed to FL, is to check that the wiring harness connector pins are bright and shiny, and plugged in securely.

I just read a post on this forum the other day, about someone who had a corroded connector pin which prevented their turn signals I believe, from working. The problem was in a FL wiring harness, and the MH was about the same modell year as yours.

You can find the ECM mounted back in the engine compartment, and remove the plug-in connector to look at it. Also, look at as much of the wiring as you can see, to see if it looks chewed. One of my friends just found his wiring harness was chewed through by mice!

Good luck on the fix.

Bill, I've been doing just what you suggested. I can find the plug at the throttle pedal and it looks ok, just stretched tight. I can't find the ECM at the engine to check the other end. Any ideas? I wish I had a wiring diagram.
Thanks

Gary,

I had a similar problem earlier this year.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> </div></BLOCKQUOTE>FINALLY ANOTHER UPDATE

The service manager called me today and informed me that my problem, the motor home's problem, was a shorted wiring harness near the A/C compressor. The short kept blowing the same fuse for the transmission sensor.
