I should have added:
There are "refrigerant leak stop" items you can buy. In my day those products were terrible and often wreaked havoc on the whole system. I am not familiar with the products out there today .......... there may be lots of success stories cuz technology is always improving it seems. I just never found much success for automotive "cures in a bottle" but it would be good to hear from forum members who have used the stuff. I know mine will develop a leak some day (hopefully many years from now) and I'd like to skip the hard work. :^)
Best........... ed s in Denver

Thanks, Ed.
I will be sure to check the AC Low side pressure periodically.
That way I'll be able to understand if I have a serious leak or just a small one.
Once I get that info, I'll be able to decide if I need a rebuild or just some of that new additive for small leak control.
Thanks, Again.

At a high idle speed ( 1200 to 1500 rpm), your dash air should be able to throe out air around 45 degF. Any colder and you can start to freeze moisture on the evaporator coil.
Ideally, you also need to check the discharge pressure to get a better idea of the compressor performance and any problems.

So, If I do have a 'freeze-up' as you described, will I loose the cool air from the vents?

So far, I have driven for 1 1/2 hrs with AC on and no loss of cold air.
Outside temp was 80 - 85 deg F.
Cool air from AC was ~40 deg F.
I will definitely keep an 'eye' on this.
Thanks.

You will lose cold air until the condenser thaws. Then it will be normal air flow again.
