Dealer appointment not really an appointment?

Here's a question for my Fellow RV users.
I usually don't take my Motorhome to RV Dealers as I do most of my own repairs and service work. However, I decided to contact our local RV dealer and ordered a new awning due to current Covid/ shipping delays it took over 6 months for the Awning to arrive at the dealership, after I had called them if it was in, yet they finally said yes and gave me an appointment to have it installed. Dropped off my coach the day before, unhooked my toad and drove home. After a few days had passed I called again to see if it was ready for pick up, only to be told they had removed my Awning and needed me to pick up the motorhome as the awning they ordered was incorrect size. Not happy but complied, waited several more months called again to see if my Awning was in yet, they said yes, now I called in early April and was told the earliest they could install was May 15th not happy, but I made the appointment day took the motorhome back the day before so they could install on the 15th as I thought, well the following day on the 16th figuring a couple of guys could probably do the job in two to three hrs. I gave them another call left several messages no call back finally called again and talked to the service Manager and asked when my coach would be ready for pick up, only to be told that they haven't started on it yet I was a little agitated at this point had to listen to the Service managers excuses and he then said it's on a first come first serve basis and couldn't say when my coach would be ready, I argued why in the world would you give me a specific appointment date if you had no intention of doing the job on that day or at least the day after !! so here I am 5 day's now no phone call from Dealer.
Long story I know, so if your still awake here's my question.
Am I being unreasonable or is this considered normal RV business practice?
Reason I stay away from RV dealers, interested in your views.
Kindest Regards

Regrettably that is about normal practice IMO. Assuming a manual awning; If you have someone to help it's not that big of a job to DIY. Instructions are found on the web, including videos. Two men, two ladders and various hand tools; in about 4 hrs. you're done.

Thanks for replying, I have installed my own awnings on my house on my own with no help the only reason I didn't attempt this on my own is I'm now 75 years old although I have equipment that can do the lifting for me, I just felt this was going to be a little tougher as it has a metal wrapped shroud that has to be slid onto the awning material ribs as well as the roller bar, plus as they told me it was a special order due to the metal rap. As I said I avoid dealerships having had really bad experiences with them but as it was a long time ago figured I would give them another shot and save me the struggle or the need to ask for help which I also try to avoid if I can.
Thanks for your input I guess I'm just a little hardheaded about doing these things as I am a skilled man and have been servicing and repairing Machine Tools all my life having served an apprenticeship in the UK. I still work occasionally just to keep the old wheels spinning trouble shooting and helping a friend's large machine shop when needed.
So long story I know but I can take care of most things myself I just caved on this one and now beginning to regret it, as of my phone call today I was told they still haven't started putting my new awning back on and couldn't say when they will get to it so I'm kind of at their mercy now.
Thanks again Ray I know your very knowledgeable as I read your other responses helping people as I try too as well, stay well keep up the good work.
Kindest Regards

The way you are being “serviced “ by this dealer is not uncommon, but that doesn’t make it right. One way to prevent this type of shabby treatment is to tell them up front you will be staying in the coach while the installation is done. Seems to me you have been more than patient with them. Unless you already paid for the awning, I would tell them what day you will be there to take your coach away and they can keep the awning.
OBTW, it is not against forum rules to name the dealer so others will know about their horrible customer service.

Thank you edgray
For your response, I had already paid for the Awning material as per their policy. Not sure if my phone call yesterday prompted them to act or if they were ready to install anyway, but 2.00 following day got a nice phone call saying my coach was ready for pick up. So really happy about that went Immediately to pick it up all looked fine now.
Kindest Regards
