i bought a magnavox ZV450MW8A digital tuner dvd-vcr combo yesterday from wally world for $180. it is actually made by funai in china.
it will not work on my inverter power. it just does not turn on, even by itself. i guess that it doesn't like modified sine wave. it works ok when on shore power. both tv sets still work on inverter power. it draws 30 watts, about the same as as the rca vcr and magnavox dvd player that it replaced.
i have the 300w continuous, 400 watt for 30 min, 600w surge original demented inverter installed in the passenger side overhead compartment. i like the auto on standby feature of this inverter but it looks like i will have to replace it anyway. the question is with what? i have very limited space and the 12v wiring to the inverter does not look like it will support a more powerful inverter. 300 watts continuous should be enough for my needs. 400 watts would be enough for sure until i replace the crt's with lcd's. another question, will lcd's work on modified sine wave? i guess that the magnavox doesn't like modified sine wave although there is no mention of that in the power requirements section of the owners manual.
magnavox (funai) tech support is no help, except to say to take it back to walmart and get another one.
another not so good point is that the remote control has very small buttons with tiny function labels. i cannot read them with my regular glasses on.

This is a good replacement Aim 300 watt pure sine wave inverter, You would have to add a transfer switch or always run the entertainment center off the inverter.

This would be a direct replacement Amptronix ATS600 and has the built-in transfer switch.
