Dish Hopper and Joey in newer Journey/Tour
Has anybody put a Dish Network Hopper and Joey in a newer Journey or Tour? Already have a Dish Trav'ler on the roof. Just wondered about the install. Talked with one installer yesterday that said the new Hopper 3 with Sling wasn't compatible with the Trav'ler. He said Winegard was working on it. Comments on that appreciated as well.

The Hopper 3 will work with some slight modifications to the antenna and the internal splitters. Search on this forum (Technology forum) and you can find the latest on how to make the conversion. Winegard may have actually made a conversion kit by now.

I am going to put a hopper 3 in our Itasca this weekend. We have the dish traveler also. As posted above some great info is in the tech forum. I am doing exactly what was posted there. (Actually the dish tech that put the new hopper in our house a few days ago is going to do it). He took the info from this forum home, studied it, called Winegard and says he should have no problem doing it.
BTW, I personally talked to Winegard tech support a week ago and they say it cannot yet be done.
Stay tuned.......

Thanks for the reply. I talked with a Dish RV installer yesterday. He made me aware of the Hopper 3 issues. To his knowledge Winegard didn't have their fix ready yet. However, he did say the Hopper 2000 worked with no mods. I will check the technology forum.

The dish tech completed the hopper 3 installation last evening. He wound up doing it EXACTLY like techwriter shows in his diagrams. He did try several other work arounds to no avail. We did learn that the hopper and the DPH42 switch must be unplugged while the Winegard Traveler is finding the satelittes. Once they are locked in the Winegard box can be turned off (push power and menu simultaneously) or left on, your choice. Why Winegard has not done this remains a mystery.
I plan to post a more detailed description of how this was done, turns out sorting out and getting to the original internal wiring from the satelitte was as hard as any part of the job. The original work by Camping World left something to be desired.
