I have a Itasca 35U with the generator compartment in the left rear. I just completed a successful sound/heat insulation project on the doghouse and I was wondering about the generator compartment. It looks like 2-3 " clearance on the sides and top of the compartment for a layer of insulation. However, the job looks like it could be easier if the gererator slid out a bit or dropped down some to allow easier access to the top-walls of the compartment. Anyone ever seen how the generator moves in-out of that compartment for service? Anyone ever add insulation to this compartment?

I insulated the genny compartment on our 35U. I used 1 inch foil backed hard foam + 1 inch soft foam w/ foil on 1 side & a vinyl insert in the center, 1 piece of each on top, front, back & outside. I'd take pics for you but there is too much snow out there now. It's pretty effective. I also did the engine compartment with the 1" soft foam material & that worked out great.

To really knock the noise down, you need to you a pretty dense product or one that has a lead shield barrier. The normal soft foams do not do much.

Hi Ho: Since there is no mention of insulation below the generator I expect this is meant keep generator noise from the coach. It would also be good to be able to keep noise from others outside. However, I expect that even the insulation that is indicated will have an adverse effect on cooling because the air space around the generator will be reduced. Does anyone know how serious additional heating is? Thanks.
