This is a heads up on all 2005 Freightliner chassis owners. I found a steering link grease boot split out and took my 2005 Meridian in for warranty repair. I was advised that many many 2005 models are coming back with the same problem and that a service bulletin will be released late next month (September)for all 2005 Freightliner chassis. They said I would be getting a letter concerning this problem. It seems the manufacture of the boots made a "bad batch" and all the boots on the chassis must be replaced as soon as a replacement inventory is distributed. If all grease boots are replaced wouldn't a wheel alignment be required?
Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it? It's hard for me to believe this story, and the widespread application it would have because I've not seen any other complaints from others on the forums.
Just to be safe you might want to get under your motorhome and check out all the rubber boots.

I wonder if this is for all Freightliner chassis? Thanks for the heads-up.

John, That's my understanding, it was the authorized Freightliner dealer in Tulsa that provided this information. I looked in the Yahoo Freightliner forum for any information and didn't find a thing on the subject. Maybe more information will be forthcoming soon, let's hope so.

If they just replace the grease boot on the tie rod ends, a front end alignment will not be required.
On my Workhorse RDP I noticed at 6000 miles that two of the grease boots had been torn during assembly when they were attached to the pitmann arm and drag link. WH replaced both of the damaged tie rod ends and not just the boots because of the possibility of dirt having contaminated the joint.

Interesting! I had my Journey to the Freightliner dealer in Hagerstown, MD for the 6000 mile and the tech mentioned that three boots were torn. He said it was all right to drive and that the repair would be covered. Good eye on his part as this is the first I have heard of a widespread problem.
