I just purchased a Fan-Tastic Fan to replace the existing roof vent. I found the wires tucked in the foam insulation in the ceiling so I think I am good-to-go. I am going to use a silicone/caulk sealer for the roof. Are there any other things I should be aware of when I install the fan?

I would use some type of butyl strip for sealing. This allows you to squish the insulation and make a good seal. The butyl is also easily removed if you need to take the fan out and reseal it.

Silicon will not last long on the roof. Most of the mfg's use Dicor or dicor type product. It is a self leveling sealer that is about the best sealant for the job. Although designed for epdm roofs it works great on fiberglass also.

I agree...stay away from the silicone! I'm almost 100% sure that this Dicor product is what's on my roof around all the vents etc. Still in great shape 11 years later!

Log onto the RVUPGRADES website accessible from iRV2's website (look at the ad at the top of this page).

RVUPGRADES is a great company to deal with. Use the pull-down window on the left side of their home page (manufacturers) and scroll down to DICOR. They have quite a long list of products that will help you get your fan installed without worrying about leaks.

CAUTION!!

We had our Satalite dish installed on roof. They usede rubber roof sealer on our fiber glass roof. It did not seal well. Roof leaked and it ended up costing the dish installer a new TV, plus haveing to remove the dish are reseal with the right sealant. Fan-Tastic Fan will get you the right stuff. May even send it to you free.

I looked on FanTastic Vent's web site in their FAQ section and the installation instructions they post says to use Silicone along the edge of the vent flange and the screw heads. I guess I will use Silicone.

Fantastic is a great company to deal with, but I think they're wrong on this one. Gorilla Snot is the last thing I'd use to seal this with.

Dicor self-leveling can be found at about any rv parts store, but if you use this product you must prep both the fan and your roof by cleaning it with denatured alcohol so it will stick to both. Also you may want to lube the switch under the fan cover?

Or, you could get one of the Eternabond kits designed specifically for intalling roof vents.
