OK. I need a little guidance here. Here are four pics of the HWH system. I suspect I need to add fluid but don't know what I am doing. Is the middle mark(ring) on the plug the level to fill to? Do I use Dexron III?

My manual says you can use Dexron III for hydraulic in HWH system. Normally the jacks should be raised and the slides should be in when you check the oil. I say normally because on my rig the right side slide is suppose to be out as the rams work in reverse on that slide. The middle ring is the mark to use for filling.

My operator manual tell you to use Dexron III or HWH hydraulic fluid. It says to not use brake fluid or hydraulic jack oil.

Dexron III, HWH fluid or Transynd are all approved for the HWH system. The HWH fluid is clear so it won't stain. I've found the HWH fluid for $4.95/qt at CW.
On my system I need the three above floor slides in and the flat floor out. It can vary with they system you have.

With my driver side slide in I am not sure I can get to the reservoir.

You'll be able to access it thru the basement compartment after opening the door. A little tricky but doable!

I too have heard that one or more slides need to be extended to get an accurate reading????? It certainly makes sense for jacks to be stored--they are one directional rams. Most, if not all slides, are bi-directional rams so the amount of fluid removed from one side of the ram, simply replaces the space on the other side as the ram extends or retracts. Help me understand the reasoning here?????

My manual also states to have jacks up and slides in to get accurate level reading. And yes, after looing it over I can see that I can get to the dip stick with the slide in. May require a mirror to add fluid but as stated--doable.

Changing the subject a little. Can the living room slide om my 2005 Adventure be manually extended? Reason being is that the hose that goes internally through the Ram to the pump has broken in half at the pump end.. The only way to remove the Ram is by extending the slide. HELPPPPP

Yes the middle ring is the FULL mark

Is your hose broken going out to the end of the cylinder? I've been attacking this problem also, and you can open the room manually, but it is very involved. Would be glad to help over the phone, PM me your details.

Back to the fluid level. OK, middle ring, filler cap just set down in the hole or screwed in? I assume the latter

yeah, in the middle, or just touching is best, ive found. there is about 1 1/2 quarts extra capacity in most hwh tanks. better a little low because of fluid expansion in hot weather. the difference of rooms in or out depends on whether you have above floor or below floor mechanism.
the below floor retracts the cylinder to retract the room. it should be fully retracted.
this is called an A mechanism
the above the floor retracts the cylinder to extend the room. this a B mechanism. it should be extended for the ram to be in retract position. both of these positions put the most fluid back in the tank.
there is about twice the fluid on the extend side of the cylinder. even at that, extended or retracted, if you have kept the fluid at the lower end of the dipstick, it will be ok. i use a rough measurement of 1 inch below the top, if you are there, its good to go. and yes, it should be screwed in.
