I just saw on another thread where a user was in Forest City and had his long slide seal fixed by Winnebago.

We returned to Texas City yesterday after evacuating for Hurricane Ike. During our away time, the long (curb side) slide seal, bedroom area, came out of it's track. I had a heck of a time getting it back in, and then I would spray water on the slide wall to get it in, and again, with my butt in the closet, spray the wall to get it out. This was with a lot of pulling and tugging while DW operated the slide control.

My question is: Is this a common thing, or just two isolated incidents?

Thanks.

Hi Wayne! I think I'm the one you saw who had slide seal problems. Mine was on an 07 Adventurer, 35A, manufactured in Dec./Jan. of 06/07. The seal that came out was on the main slide, the curb side sofa/dinette. The fix was to remove the inside wood molding, loosen the slide bolts from the frame and tilt the slide up. This allowed access underneath and they reattached it with a different part and used longer screws driven in at an angle instead of into the end grain of the plywood floor. At least, that is what I was told. I have talked to many owners of same year/floorplan and I'm the only one who has had this problem.

Anyway -- we are full timin' and having a great time!

Thanks.
My problem is the vertical seal and not the bottom seal. I'm thinking it is not a common problem.

When I did a walk around after extending the slides I saw that the vertical seal was pulled out from the top of the slide to about 3-4 feet down. A fine young gentleman next to me climbed on the roof, and with him prodding and pulling, and me using the awning hook, we were able to re-seat it. When retracting it I had to wet the slide side, go inside and put my butt in the closet while DW operated the controls to bring it in. I could only let her bring it in about 3-4 inches at a time while I pushed and prodded the seal to keep it seated. This was just before IKE came up I-45 3 miles away and we were in Cat 1 conditions. When we extended it after the storm I again had to pull and prod from the inside to keep it in place.

On the last time we moved I just let it do it's thing and dropped it off at the dealer for warranty work.

In another thread it was stated about spending money expecting a good quality product. I think I have a good quality product and I don't know of any company that does not have a problem now and then. So, I'm not complaining as long as they stand behind their product and fix it, and so far the dealer I deal with has been great.

I don't know what the rules are here for indicating good or bad dealers, but I live in Texas City, TX, and if you want the name of a good dealer, drop me a line.

Update:
New slide wiper seal came in and was installed. Upon closing and opening the slide, the seal started to come out.

The problem was discovered to be a collapsing frame that the slide glides on. On the 39W it is found by taking the mattress off the bed and removing the cover to the frame. You will find the fresh water fill line under there also. When the slide was coming in or out it was causing stress (considerable) on the slide and seals since it was out of alignment, top to bottom. It cracked the siding on the bed sides and foot.

If you want to check yours, remove the mattress, remove the screws holding the top piece of the bed (You'll see why there is not storage under there) and look at the black frame the slide glides on. there will be teflon blocks on top of the black frame. The slide frame is made of aluminum.

Just thought I'd pass that on as a piece of memory storage information.
