Microwave/Convection Oven taking 40 minutes to Preheat - Normal?

Hi everyone!

We just bought a used 2016 Adventurer that has a Whirlpool Gold Combo Microwave/Convection Oven. On our first trip out, things did not cook as well as our last Rig, so we called Whirlpool and they sent out a tech.

He used a thermal coupler to measure internal temp. It took 40 minutes for it to reach 380 degrees when it was set to 400. The tech called Whirlpool and was told this is within spec. Also, when we insert my cheapy oven thermometer, the oven temp dropped 100 degrees!

What are you all experiencing? Should we expect these types of Ovens to work as well as at home?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi , We have a 2015 Palazzo diesel pusher with a whirlpool microwave convection oven with the same problem. I ordered a repair manual from https://www.servicemanuals.net/ and parts from www.repairparts.com

I haven't installed the parts yet. I hope they will fix the problem.
The model # of ours is YWMH76718AS-2
If this is the same unit as yours, send me a PM and I will send info to you.

Ours is always off by 125 degrees, but the microwave operation works fine.

Takes some time

Yes, it can take that long. I have a 2013 Vista and it takes 40-45 minutes to reach 425. My wife just learned to allow for that extra time.

My '07 convection oven takes about 30 minutes to preheat which I thought was terrible. Never having used one before I had already inserted my hamburger patties which at home are done in 10 minutes. When the bell went off they were rare. Took another 10 minutes to get them medium well.

I downloaded the manual and a recipe book and now just plan for the additional time.

Have a great day - Richard

I had a year long battle with Frigidaire with the same problem. After many warrant repairs the said that 275 f was adequate temp to cook! It’s just normal! Took a bit of social media to get them to buy it back from me.
We have a dual door Oster convention oven we use now.

I just timed ours to preheat for a pizza. It is a Sharp unit. Took 9 minutes to preheat to 400 degs. Inside temperature is around 75 degs. 2014 35P

I learned that for us it is dependent on the quality of electricity being delivered at the post. If it takes very long I start the generator. Generally it does not take more than 10 min for ours to reach 350 degrees.

Ok makes sense! My research shows Sharp and GE Profile as 2 of the better ones. Low temps are very common on many other brands.

I just gave up and am waiting for this one to die before buying good one. We bought a larger toaster oven(can hld a 12" pizza) and use that. So much better.
