FTIW - Earlier, I posted a request for help with a hi-temp shutdown of my genny. I was able to resolve it and since my post showed no views or responses, I deleted it.

However, I thought it might be useful to someone in the future to know the details... I've never had a moments trouble with my 7.5 QD in the past. When I started it today, it ran for about a minute and then shutdown. The "blink code" was 1 and when I pressed the stop button, I got a secondary code of 33. According to the manual this is a high coolant temp shutdown. Obviously wrongo since I had just started it from cold. Tried a couple of more times with the same results.

In minor panic mode (just started 10 days of dry camping), I posted my request for help, THEN started searching for previous threads. Someone in another thread mentioned getting an air bubble in the coolant in the area of the sensor.

Aha, says I! Loosened the coolant cap (it wasn't even warm) and got a big burp. Took the cap off and started the genny. Let a run a bit to see if any more air wanted out. Nope - so I put the cap back on, started it up and it's been running for 2 hours now...

Moral to the story - if your baby does a hi-temp shutdown, it may just need to be burped!

ON Edit: Well the burping didn't work the 2nd time. Unit ran perfectly about 4 hrs/day for 3 days, then failed again. Still getting a blink code indicating high coolant temp. It is definitely not over-heating. I'm hoping it's a bad coolant temp sensor...

Has anybody gained access to the cooling system area of the QD7500? I'm not speaking of the little panel that hides the radiator cap. Been there done that. Looks like a big panel covers the front of the unit, but I haven't tried removing it yet. Anyone dealt with a code 1-33?

Is this fix for the weesel gen sets only or does it apply to the gas genny's too?

codgerbill - not sure, but aren't all the gas gennies air cooled? If so, you, luckily, would never have this problem...

I've had my 7500 worked on twice since new. One was when the waterpump decided, for no good reason, to start leaking. The second time was for a broke waterpump belt. However, when I took it in for the second repair the owner of the repair facility did mention that the temp sensor is a weak link in this particular genny. He said that it is pretty unusual for ONAN since their stuff is pretty reliable but he stated he had seeing a few come in with bad sensors. I had him change mine out since the genny was out of the MH for repair anyways.

The low coolant level sensor is wired in to the high tempersture sensor. If you get an inappropriate high temperature shutdown, check the coolant level.
Pretty common occurance on the industrial Onans when the coolant level drops for what ever reason, would have thought that particular nugget of wisdom would have made it to the RV side of the generator business years ago.

Mikeso,

Did they remove the front cap to get at the generator, or did they drop it out underneath?

Something I learned the hard way. I changed coolant in my 7.5 and thought I did everything right. When I fired it up, it would run and then would shut off due to high heat (per the blinking light signal). I would take off the cap (the one next to the oil cap and the antifreeze would be right there -- had me totally puzzled. Finally, I realized that I was refilling the generator through the overflow tank -- not the filling tube. I took off the plate and got access to the filling tube and put in additional coolant and "waa laa" --- no more "high heat" problems. I am sure that is not the problem here but, even though I sometimes think of myself as doing it right -- I do goof. Maybe this will save someone else the puzzling situation that I thought I had.

They dropped the generator out from below. They come underneath with a fork lift. For them it didn't take that long. Half a day and I had the coach back.

I got the 1-33, turned out to be the temperature sensor. Replaced it and it now works like a charm.

Final update - it was a bad coolant temp sensor as suspected. Seems to be a weak point in these models.
