Good comments. Cost can be a factor in many decisions...

Full disclosure for my situation; back in the late 90's a good friend bought a new Pace Arrow and tried variable speed water pumps. For whatever reason, neither the SurFlow or Flowjet would work. My memory is that he got compensated by Pace Arrow and didn't have to return the pumps so he gave then to me. Accordingly, it was no cost for me to discard the noisy OEM pump in our '95 Safari Trek and later for the '99.
