Replacing carpet 2003 Winnebago Brave

Going to replace our worn carpet in our 2003 Winnebago Brave. Thinking of going with laminate floor, just wondering if I replace the carpet with laminate do I need to change the slideout rollers or will the rollers that are on the slideout now work? If they need changing how hard of a job is it to change them out? I have 2 slideouts?

They are hard to change out. With carpet they are made of plastic, with laminate they are covered with carpet. There are sliders available that you put on floor before moving the slide that protect the floor. We didn't do anything to the slide and we haven't had problems.

I replaced the carpet in my 2002 Itasca Suncruiser 35U with commercial grade carpet tile. It has a nice, low nap, is easy to clean and, if you buy a little extra, easy to repair if damaged or stained. I wouldn't suggest laminate. Even the newer, water-resistant types, aren't water resistant enough for around a slide out.

If you're absolutely set on a hard surface floor, consider luxury vinyl planking, which is waterproof but be prepared to protect it from slide out scratches and deal with the eventuality that they will occur.

If your rig is like mine, there's a narrow, plywood "ramp" just inside the slide opening, that's covered with carpet. When removing your old carpet, cut as close as you can to this ramp but leave the carpet covering it in place. It's tough to remove and serves a purpose. You can cover the raw edge with an aluminum transition piece bridging the gap between your new floor and the old carpet on the ramp.

Thanks for the replies I am not absolutely set on a hard floor surface. I am just trying to research my options before starting this project. Looks like replacing the carpet with carpet would be the best and easiest option! Also BCam how did you install the carpet tiles? Did you glue them or where they self adhesive?

I had such a hard time removing the adhesive from the vinyl area I decided not to glue the carpet tiles down but used carpet tape. I had the best results with a heat gun and scraper where the vinyl was. It's been three or four months now and so far so good. I figured I could always glue them down if necessary.

Although thicker, the carpet tiles butted nicely against the peel and stick luxury vinyl planks I used to replace the old vinyl so I didn't need to use a transition strip (another, I can do it later if necessary thing). Again, so far so good and I haven't noticed any issues with the install despite our 90 to over 100 degree summer temperatures.

The commercial grade carpet tiles were from S&G Carpet (I think they're 22" square) and the peel and stick luxury vinyl was Stainmaster 6" x 24" planking from Lowes.

I still need to do the cockpit area, I stopped at the floor transition from the living area to the cockpit.
