I am replaceing my shower skylight because of a 6 inch crack. I've got it ordered from the dealer, should be in in a week. When I go to install it I assume I'll need to put caulk around the flange before I stick it on and then self leveling caulk all around it. Has any one used enternal bond tape to install a syklight? If so what did you do?

A couple of years ago, we had a 5th wheel that had a leaking roof vent that needed replacing. I "carefully" removed the old caulking using a small metal putty knife and heat gun on low setting directed towards the putty knife at an angle. I then cleaned the area with Dawn liquid soap and warm water, allowing to dry. We then purchased a 4"x50ft roll of Eternabond tape and cut strips to size, a 1/2" wide roll of 2-sided sticky butyl tape for placing under the new vent and a small roller for rolling the Eternabond tape after applying. Once you see how well this stuff works, you will probably want to use it on other things on the roof.

I have use eternabond tape on my side roof seams and my front cap, so I know how well it works and love using it.

I guess I'm worried about this application, the skylight is held down by about a gazillion pan head screws the go all around the flange on the skylight. I'm worried that the tape will not seal around the screws. How was your syligth held down?

Not to worry. We also had a bunch of screws and snugged them down before applying the tape. be sure and look at the condition of the screws and if need be replace as needed. If I remember correctly, I think I also used a small flat washer under each one. Here is another good website to have on hand if you inadvertently misalign the tape.

Thanks for the websites some great information on them. OK so I'm going to go with the tape I'll get some butyl tape to put between the skylight flange and the roof and then seal it with 4" wide eternabond tape putting the tape right over the screwheads, I assume I'll have to overlap the screws by about 1". And I figure I'll replace all the screws with new ones probally stainless steel.

I'll try and get pictures as I do it and post them, but don't hold your breath it will probally be a month or so before I do it.
