OK about a month ago I started a post about replacing my skylight. Well I finally did it this weekend, order one from Winebago(~$130 not bad) and the weather was nice this last weekend so I decided to go replace. Unfortunatly my camera went on the FRTIZ so I don't have any pictures.
1st I had to take out the old skylight, 17 screws. For the 1st couple I painstakingly removed all the sealent around the screws and then took them out. Then I found out I could just press the drive bit down through the sealent and un screw them with out takeing the sealent of 1st. Saved a lot of time.
Then it was around the outside to scrape off the the sealent and try to break the seal. It came up relatively easy but was pretty brittle and broke in several places.
Then came the worst part, scraping all the @#$%^ seatlent off, took about an hour starting with a putty knife then working my way down to a razor blade, I then cleaned the entire area with Acetone.
I used Butyl Rubber Tape, between the sylight and the RV for sealent then sealed it with eternal bond tape. I 1st put the Butyl Rubber Tape on the RV, covering the screw holes, this was a mistake because I couldn't see the hole and hence I couldn't line them up with the hole on the skylight, DUH!. So I had to take it off. Then I put the Butyl Rubber Tape on the skylight, then I put 3 screws though thie holes (one I each corner) so I could line up the holes. This worked great I was able to places it right over the holes and screw them down.
By the way I replace the #10 3/4 inch sheet metal screws with #12 3/4 stainless steel screws. This made the grip really well.
Once all the screws were tightened, I used a 4 inch wide eternal bond tape to seal around the edges and screw heads. This made a nice clean seal that I won't have to worry about for ten years.
All in all it wasn't that bad I started at 9:00 and was done by 12:30, including a trip to the hardware store.

now I'm already for the snow. Ski season is just around the corner.
