Retractable Stair Problem

I have a 2006 Itasca Navion 23H. Today my stairs wouldn't come out They were making a click, click, click sound. Turning them off at the switch would not stop the sound, only closing the door would. After a while the stair came out but now will not retract. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be the motor? Is there some kind of relay? I wonder why turning off the stair switch did not stop the noise. Does anyone know the part number for the motor assembly? This is the first time I have had this problem and any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Doug

It could be that the gears that operate from the motor are stripped. Need further information about the make and model of the stairs. Many can be replaced with an electric window mechanism that is much cheaper than the original. You can use the search box at the top of the page and find other threads about step repair and motor replacements.

stair problem

I realized today the starter battery was dead. I assume this may mean the stair motor kept running and ran down the battery. Could this be caused by stripped gears not allowing the motor to reach it,s stop position and turn off? Where might the stair fuse be?
Thanks
Doug

Kwikee is the widely used step brand. Using Google I found many web resources including manuals, troubleshooting steps, even videos. This link is a manual to help identify which step model you might have:

This link talks about the way the steps operate and repair guides:
