Since new I have had a problem with rust staining getting on my wheels. I have had the lug nut covers off and the rear hub covers off and cleaned as best I could without removing the wheels. My original thoughts was road salt from the ferry down to Florida. Frieghtliner sent me all new covers so I would not have to spend all day cleaning the orginal ones.Very nice of them. After washing the rig I notice the same day I had rust stains on the rear wheel coming from under the hub cover. Is this normal???? I am thinking about removing the wheels and painting the hubs and lug nuts.

Bob, I have the same problems on my Horizon. The problem seems to stem from the retaining clips attached to the wheel covers and the nuts holding the rim in place. These are all regular metal that will rust when it gets wet. I don't have a solution as yet but was thinking about coating them with a material that converts rust into a hard surface that can then be painted and is not supposed to rust again. Next project on my list.

I have had this rust on the tires problem since my coach was new. It comes from the cap moving constantly while in motion, it rubs against the steel rim. The movement is very minor but enough to rub the metal, which then rust from moisture of any kind. I fixed mine permanently by getting some small diameter plastic hose, slitting it down the middle. Then inserting over the outside edge of the cap. This insulates the cap from touching the metal rim. Does not affect balance at all, and is un-noticable because the hose is clear. I have not had any rust since I did the above. Cap must be removed to insert the hose on to the outside rim. Then retighten the cap. I use four 2 inch pieces to each cap. Works for me.

The accuride wheel is a aluminum wheel. It has SS lugnut covers and SS rear hub covers. The problem seems to the iron behind these covers.

I had the same issue and replaced the lugnut covers with chrome plastic ones from Alcoa about 6 months ago. They are bigger in size and look a 100% better. I have had no issues with rust since. They use to have a accessory site, but it has been down for about a year.

You can call them at 1-800-434-7202. They will ask for the serial number of the wheel to give you the correct covers.
