Screen door Modification
Since it is early and raining, thought I'd ramble about our screen door mod.
We do not like to sit in the RV with the front door closed, just seems to confining. I modified the screen door so we could leave the main door open and still retain heat/air.
I began by buying some Lexan(maybe in was plexiglass) at H. Depot and cutting it to fit inside the screened opening for the top, middle, and bottom I bought some Angle Aluminum at H. Depot 3/4"x1/2"x1/16". By placing the plastic against the screen, the 1/2" side of the aluminum makes a perfect retainer as it lines up with the inside edge of the door frame. I then ripped the 3/4" side down to about 3/16" on my table saw(just enough to hold the plastic in) and mitered the ends at 45 deg. To rip the aluminum, I placed it under a board and ran it along my saw fence to keep it in place.
l then drilled two screw holes in each piece and a pilot hole in the groove on the door frame. I used #4x3/8" sheet metal screws to screw the pieces onto the frame therefore retaining the plastic against the screen. I found some Rustoleum Almond spray paint that comes very close to the color of the screen door frame and painted the aluminum pieces and screws. It will be easy to remove the retaining pieces to clean the plastic and the screen.
Also, we installed one of those screen door springs and disabled the latch mechanism so now all we have to do is push open the screen door and it closes itself.
Can you tell I don't have anything to do on rainy days?
