Shower Outer Skylight Replacement $$$$$$$????
2001 Winnebago Adventurer, 32v
The Outer Skylight over the Shower has developed a small stress crack in one of the corners.
This has been patched with Sealant, but I have discovered that the crack has continued to slowly move upward. Probably due to the natural migration of a crack in a stress area.
SO.....
I seem to have 2 choices.
1. Drill a small hole at the termination of the crack to relieve the stress and to prevent further migration and then apply sealant (inside and outside) to eliminate any further leaking.
2. Purchase a new Outer Skylight Cover for about $700.00!!!! This is a Winnebago specific part.
My Winnebago Part No. is 114496-01-02a for the Outer Cover but it is hard for me to accept that I have to spend this much money for a Cover. Size is 22" X 37 ".
Going to go with a "Fix" for now but would appreciate any advice about where to get a new cover at a reasonable price.
Thanks for the time to respond.

Just fyi, the outer skylight for the shower on my 2005 Vectra (139411-01-01A) cost me ~$250 (incl shipping) from Lichtsinn's in 2016. (Also note that Lichtsinn's offers a 10% discount for WIT members.)

I replaced a outer skylight on our former 2003 Journey last year and it was around $250 also. It was the triangle shape one. Got it from winnebagoparts.com.

Looks like this will be a lot less expensive than the MFG.
I appreciate your reply.

My 2000 Adventurer does the same thing. I have used Lexel caulk on the crack in two corners. It seems to hold up well. It seems to be a bit more flexible than the rv sealants that I have tried. So far as replacing it I believe you will still have the same problem as it will continue to crack even with a new one just from the flexing of the coach body. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

A few years ago, I broke the outer skylight on a low-hanging branch. I found a replacement dome at Lowe's. I had to use my Dremel to cut off about 1/8" from two edges for an exact fit. Under $100 including the sealant and Dremel bit, and job done in about 45 minutes.

Just fyi, winnebagoparts.com (a division of Mobility RV, not part of Winnebago) shows the Outer Skylight Panel – 22″ x 37″ (Winnebago part number 114496-01-02A) for your coach for $474.40 (plus shipping). Better than $700.

Keep shopping.
I just ordered a new one from Tiffin for 56 bucks and change today. That's for *both* pieces, I believe. (The one I got earlier this year--not from Tiffin, which was my mistake--has already developed cracks. Grrrr...) From Tiffin, it's their part number 9890.

The thing about skylights is that you will only want to do this once and (hopefully) never have to worry about it cracking or leaking again. I recommend a LEXAN replacement from EZtops. I measured carefully, ordered one that was over-sized and am very glad that I did. It was more expensive than other options at $203 but I think it was a good investment for the higher quality materials. When it comes to leaks, the cheapest route is not the best route as it could cost you much more down the road.
Best wishes and safe travels.

Thanks,
Just ordered one from them. Should be here in about a week.
Measured all of the right dimensions, including the height.
Talked directly to a service rep and got an exact replacement for my outer skylight.
Excellent customer service.
I will update when I have received the new one and installed it.
Thanks again.

UPDATE
Received new skylight yesterday.
Perfect size and 'milk white' color.
Seems to be much thicker than the original one.
I could probably stand on it without any issues.
It is Lexan.
This job took a little longer than I expected, but I took extra care to ensure all surfaces were clean.
All mating surfaces and flange were well sealed and Dicor self leveling sealant was used.
Found two cracks in the original skylight.
It was time to replace it!!!

Chris, unfortunately there has been a slight increase in price, that one is $694.55 now not including tax & S/H. On the Mobility RV site they list it at $474.40 but when you click on the order now key nothing happens, you have to email or call them to get the current price. On the bright side I think it includes a tube of KY for WIT members.
