06 33v rear ram started making very loud grinding noise while going down road. I opened about an inch and stopped. In shop now for replacement of gear on rear of main slide. Anyone ever heard of such?

The only way that the slide could make a noise like you describe is if the slide is trying to close further while you are driving. It sounds like the gear that moves the slide got destroyed trying to push an already closed slide closed further. Either the switch that moves your slide shorted out and activated, or there may be a limiter switch that broke. The function of a limiter switch is to break the circut when the slide is all the way in, much like a button on the door jam turns off an interior light in your car when you close the door. However, limiter switches usually only apply to electric operated slides. Hydroulic slides dont use limiter switches.

That would be my guess.
