My DW and me took our new to us 2004 Winnie 31C out today for our 1st run. Never had a motorhome before. Had 30' 5th wheel then 19' hybrid.

I was a great day :B We boondocked next to the beach at Fort Desoto with an awesome view the Skyway Bridge and large ships coming and going out of Tampa Bay all day.

However, when we were leaving I started to retract the slide and the front screw drive was thumping really loud :h Is this normal? The unit came with a 30 day warranty and I need to know soon.

If this is not normal, could it be a loose mount? or if you had the same issue what was the fix.

The slide did come in without a problem but I am worried it is a bigger problem about ready to happen.

I did search the forum but got no responses talking about slide noises or thumping sounds.

Sorry for the long post.

I just love this site.

My bedroom slide makes a thump just before it closes. I was told at the dealer this was normal.
BUT, if you have a conceren call/run to the dealer as fast as possible and have it looked at while under warranty. Good Luck

Next time you retract the slide watch the topper fabric as it rolls on the drum. Ours makes a light thumping sound each revolution of the fabric. The fabric isn't perfectly aligned with the drum and I can see the drum move on the mount as it trys to compensate. When it warms up a bit I'll reposition the drum to square it to the fabric and hopefully eliminate the thump.

When the fabric is fully rolled on the drum check both ends. If the drum is off center the fabric will appear to be rolling uphill on one end
