Sliding window removal
On my 2005 38j the dual pane windows are fogged. The main one the wife wants me to fix is the slider on the passenger side. My question is how do I remove it? Hopefully the entire window doesn't require removal from the coach.

Yep, the inside frame must be removed, it should be held to the outside frame with screws.

Have fun with project, DW and I did the door window a year ago. Not really a fun project but happy with end results. There are a couple of youtube videos that really help with the project.
Good Luck

I forgot to say, do not depend on the sealant to hold the outside frame in place. If it should happen to fall away from the RV you're looking a $$$$.

Yes the window frame assembly has to completely out. There's some excellent YouTube videos to show exactly how to do it & all the right materials to get. I did all my windows this past spring & couldn't be happier with the results. A bit labor intensive job & just takes time to all of them but much cheaper than having one of the outfits do it. I'll be doing all Air Bag replacements come this next spring.

Thanks for the replies. I will watch so as to not let the window fall out. I had to remove the escape window in the bedroom for some stupid crap and it was about impossible to get out because of the sealant. I know Murphy's law states that when you don't it to happen it always does. I need to find someone to fix it next. I am in SW Minnesota, so Florida and Arizona are out of the question. I don't care if it is double pane or not. It appears to just be two panes of glass with a thin strip of something between them. I was thinking that a thick piece of tempered glass like in windshields should almost fill the frame and use some urethane to hold it in.

Take a hair dryer to the outside frame to heat up & loosen the sealant that was used at the factory...it work for me on my 20 year old window frames. You can use laminated glass instead of tempered...I only broke 1 pane of glass (while separating the panes ) doing the rehab outta all of them & had it replaced with laminated as per suggested by my local glass shop & putting it on the inside of the dual pane...also much cheaper than tempered.

David,
Take a nice vacation trip down to Searcy, Ark. and visit the "R. V. Fog Dr".
Make an appointment for a Monday and get there on Sunday and camp out in their full hook up lot for free Sunday night.
We did a couple of years ago and they had 4 windows done by noon.
Even gave us free "T" shirts. Those guys are real pro's.

Cost me $230.00 in materials & my time...The spacer material the window maker used was just a rubber type material. The spacer material I used has a Desiccant built into it to absorb any moisture which the OEM window manufacturer should've used! There's no "gas" loss issue some people think is the issue.
2 rolls of CRL Black 3/16" Thick x 3/16" Wide Edgetech Super Spacer
3 tubes of CRL Super Spacer Sealant
2 rolls of Alpha Systems All-Purpose Butyl Tape, 1/8" x 3/4" x 35'

Thanks all for the replies. I will need to put this project on hold for about three months at least. It's just too cold here at the time. The Arkansas trip does sound interesting, but it also would be in warmer weather.

This job makes me very nervous because of the potential for creating leaks. How did you verify that you got a good seal?

Perhaps this is a dumb question - I'm sure people will let me know - but is there any reason one can't or shouldn't replace the glass with acrylic (Plexiglass) or polycarbonate (Lexan)? They're lighter and more thermally efficient than glass.

By careful prep work of the window panes after thorough removal of the old inferior material & using quality CRL Super Spacer® Premium Plus is a flexible, silicone foam spacer that provides the maximum in perimeter insulation for sealed glazing units. Desiccant-filled with pre-applied side adhesive, the structural foam product significantly simplifies insulating glass (IG) production & CRL Black Silicone Foam and Metal Super Spacer® Insulating Glass Sealant. As I stated earlier All way better products used to mate these window panes together ant the OEM window makers use! Putting them back together isn't that hard.

Thanks for the video. What size tape did you use. I see there are a lot of different sizes.
