Stepwell cover

I have a 2009 Winnebago Vectra. The Stepwell is not working. The Stepwell is electric with cables. The cable came unhooked from the motor. The motor runs back and forth.
1. What is the configuration of the cables?
2. How do you access the cables? Is there access on the backside of the generator?
3. Where do you get parts for the Stepwell?
Thank you,
Frank Mau

Answer 1-2 you will find here
https://winnebago.com/Files/Files/Wi...ram/Wiring.htm

Answer 3 These are the go to folks for everything Winnebago
https://www.lichtsinn.com/

If you go to the Winnebago web page click on owners link there is a lot of good information
https://winnebago.com/home

You should be able to find the part number on one of the owners pages. Once you find that number do a search. Lichtsinn will also help with part number.

Frank,
Well Sir, I know that the Vectra of the same era as our '04 Itasca Horizon is an almost identical coach in just about all aspects. As for the '09 version, well, that remains to be seen. I have done work on that slide-out step cover on ours. And yes, it's motor powered, cable driven system. The cable winds on a drum. It's been quite a long time since I worked on ours. At this point, I'm going to assume (you know what that means ) that your generator is on a slide out, correct?

If that's the scenario, then you'll slide that generator out to a fully extended position. Then, you'll need to slide under the front of the coach in behind that generator and go to almost the sitting up position. If you look straight up, and again, if your Vectra is like our Horizon, you will see a metal plate, held on by a bazillion screws. If you see that plate, then you're partially home. You need to remove all those screws to remove that plate. Believe me, a screw gun of some sort is your best friend for this scenario!

Once that plate is removed, you will now have access to the full cable system and the motor to that slide step cover. You will then be able to diagnose just what the issue(s) are and maybe, just maybe, you'll just need to re-install the cable and do what's needed for tension etc. and maybe, no parts will be needed.

One more thing. When we recarpeted our coach a few years ago, I found out something I wish I'd have found years prior. And that is, that sliding step cover is merely a piece of plywood that has carpet glued to it and, it's held on with 4 screws, one on each corner to a traveling frame. The screw heads are buried deep in the carpet and I had no idea they were there. I found them by mistake. Once those four screws were removed, I could pick up that carpeted plywood and if I recall, I could see the cables and the motor FROM THE TOPSIDE!

Now again, is your coach built similar to this? Not a clue. But, I thought I'd throw some of this info at ya just in case any of it did/does any good. Good luck and do keep us informed of what you find and how you found it.

Hey Ed,
You're quite welcome. I always kind-a figure if I've got something legit to offer a given situation that *might* be of some value, why not!!!!
