Question Strange heater device found:

Help!
We are trying to get our 1986 30 ft Winnebago Chieftain winterized as well as undoing some of the crappy work done on it in it's past life. We found some kind of heater contrivance under the bunk in the rear, from all indications it looks like a small radiator with a fan. On top it has a sticker saying "Suburban SH-810", and a model number "AMUK". It appears to have water hoses running in and out of it which would suggest it's some kind of auxillary heater, but we don't know. And neither does anyone else, so far.

As many of you have found out, it is virtually impossible to get manuals or diagrams on these older Winnebagos. I thought surely there must be a shop manual for dealers or maintenance people but it seems there is no such animal.

We have drained the hot water heater and the potable water tank, now we plan on running the antifreeze through it once we bypass the water heater.

Any tips or advice will be appreciated, especially if you have a year and model such as we do.

Kind regards and thanks in advance.

Folis

It's a rear area heater using engine coolent flow just like the regular driver area heater - used to heat the rear area of the MH if desired, while traveling - there should also be a dash mounted blower switch to turn the fan off/on and control blower speed.

Agreed, it's the MotorAid aux. heater. Have you checked with Winnebago customer service for information/ manual for your unit? They have been very good to me in the past.

By the way, that rear heater makes an excellent "second radiator" for additional cooling if you have a tendency to overheat in some towing or steep grade situations - just put the rear blower on Max, and get extra engine coolant temperature reduction!
