The third brake light lens on my 2004 W22 Adventurer has faded to white. I ordered a new one and I got the entire light as well as the lens. It has a pigtail with a plug on the end. I removed the old light but I can't pull enough wire out to get to the plug. Ran out of time. Plan to get a light and look in there. Might have to get someone with small hands. Anyone change one out and run into this?

I "buffed" mine with 1000 wet or dry and polished it with Meguiar's. No need to replace the lens/light

I changed mine after it started to take in water. As I recall, the "exact" replacement had a different number of wires so I cut the wires, experimented to find which to use, and used butt splices to put it back together. The replacement is now fading,getting lighter. The good part is that they have red LEDs in them so still light up red even if the lens goes totally white.

I completely agree with MrSr71. I have brought mine back to full brilliance with a good finish rubbing compound. Now I keep a piece of water line foam insulation over it during storage to keep the sun off it. Works just fine.

I will try that on the old one. Going to see if I can get the new one installed if it ever stops raining here in PA.

Replaced the old one with the new one. I couldn't get my hand in there to reach the plug. Looking up from below it appears the wire going to the light was tied to a wire hardness and why I couldn't pull it out further.

I ended up cutting the old light off and splicing the wires. I used good connected and shrink wrapped conections.

New light looks great and has LED dots in rows. Not sure what the old one looked like.
