Tour Middle AC not running?

I have 2012 Tour and noticed that the middle AC unit never cycles on, even in really hot weather. I check the obvious stuff and even swapped in new start & run caps but I get nothing.

Any ideas what I should check? I've separated the thermostat cover and I'm considering jumping the red, yellow, and green to see if that kicks it on but because both the front & rear AC's are working fine I doubt its the Coleman Wall Thermostat 8430-331. I've also checked all breakers and fuses.

Anyone got a recommendation what to look at next?

Three rooftop A/C units could need as much as 35-40 amps of power. Do you have an electrical management system that sheds power when on a 30 amp pedestal? I'd check the wiring diagram for your model to see how the A/C units are set up.

You might also check the manual for your thermostat to see if it needs to be reprogrammed to control the middle A/C.

We also have three air conditioners on our Winnebago Journey. On our way home from Texas in June I was running the front two off the generator. Front one shut down about an hour from home. Took in in for repair and was told compressor was out and not worth repairing since these unit are basically disposable. New one ordered under warranty and will be installed on the 1st.

Please be sure to post back when you find the answer.

We purchased our 2012 Tour new and never could find the sensor. When the coach is real hot, all three run, as it cools the middle a/c shuts off. Not in the bag of manuals that I could find.

Middle AC sensor is in the kitchen below the countertop just left of the cook top. Not the right place. My middle AC has now failed twice. Compressor lock up. First replaced under warranty second will be under extended warranty. Will cover about half the cost of the extended warranty. I currently have no plans to be where I need to run three units. Did that last summer in TX and OK never again.

So, I'm NOT an HVAC tech... but after a few hours of digging, I found the issue. I removed the cover from the middle unit, then removed the blower housing cover. There I found the "Coleman Junction Box Assembly 8530-752"... the instructions say that if the green led is glowing, it is getting what it needs to function. Regardless, I decided to remove it and open the box - there I found several burned wires and a melted relay/switch.

My problem now is finding the exact replacement part... once I do, it should be a simple swap.

Anyway, thanks for all of the responses!

The first time this happened to me I replace the complete J-Box on the straight cool unit up front.

I found the contactors on line and replaced the one in the burnt J-Box along with the burnt wires to have a spare. Recently the same thing happened to the center heat pump unit. I swapped the repaired J-Box with the bad one in 10 minutes and all has been well.

I repaired the second J-Box and have it again for a spare.

Note that if you use a J-Box that was on a straight Cool on a heat pump you must change the internal jumper to accommodate. Attachment 170838Click image for larger version

Thanks Jesse... I plan to repair the damaged box and keep it as a spare also. Its pretty burned up but I may be able to salvage it.

Right now, I can't seem to find anyone online selling the exact same part number my box is. It has a decal on it that says "8530-752 Control Assembly". The board itself says "8530-322" but I'm not sure what to make of that??? Anyway, I can find several 8530-XXXX but none are 752's or 322's. I can't seem to find any cross reference material either.

Do you happen to have a recommended source for the J-box???

In any event, this is from the middle AC unit which I believe is cool only as it is smaller than the other two. The OEM box I took out does not have any jumpers. I did read something in the thermostat installation manual saying something about internal jumpers so I will go back and review that, Thanks!

Thanks Grant... that part is close but not correct for my application.

As it turns out, my OEM part # 8530-752 is out of production. After several hours on the phone and eventually talking with Coleman Tech (316-832-4357) I learned the new part number is 8530-5071. The irony is no one I called (PPL, Makarios, a few others) inventory or can even find that part number... but I did find one on eBay and have bought it. Hopefully it will be the correct unit for my system!

Thanks,
Marc
