Towing capacity, Winnebago Trend
Recently purchased a used 2015 Winnebago Trend, and from the small receiver hitch, I surmised that towing capacity would be limited. However, when I look at the specs for the 2017 Trend, I see exactly the same numbers except the towing capacity is listed at 5100 lbs instead of 2000. Any thoughts?

Mighty curious. I checked it out and also notice that not only the tow capacity increases from 2000lbs to about 5000lbs, the GVWR remains unchanged at about 9350lbs. If one were to believe these numbers, then somehow the weight of the motorhome will have needed to be reduced, yet the engine, body, etc., show as unchanged.

Thanks, Jeff, for your comments. The more that I've thought about it, I think the towing capacity of the 2015 is limited only by the class 2 hitch. Unless I find information to the contrary, I plan to replace that hitch with a class 3 hitch and then consider towing my Chevy Colorado................

I think you're on the right track, Rock. Folks I mention this to appear to believe that the 2000 lb tow capacity was misstated and wrong. One pointed to a different chassis, but I find that hard to believe if you take in to consideration, again, the GVWR doesn't change at about 9,500 lbs. The numbers probably do refer to the hitch and all things remaining the same, if you upgrade it to class 3 I would bet the coach would handle a 4700 lbs TOAD. If you find out more, definitely post an update.

I would weigh the coach and do the actual calculations vs GVWR. The change could be a marketing ploy. Its capable of 5,100lbs but only empty and with 1gal of gas...

The 2017 brochure states it has a towing capacity of 2000lbs. The GCWR is 11,500 less the GVWR leaves 2150 as the maximum it could tow legally. I would forget trying to tow a vehicle with it.

I suspect that you are absolutely correct. The numbers that I originally came across were most likely specifications for the chassis alone and not that of the chassis and coach. Since I have used this MH, I have learned to appreciate the ease of getting around, parking etc., and I actually am quite glad not to have another vehicle to worry about.
