On the '14 QD note which slide out mechanism is used on the passenger side. The Schwintek 'fixed' rail mechanism caused a lot of problems - particularly on the forward slide. Many of us had that system replaced by the 'floating rail' system.
As you would expect, good maintenance records are important, tire age over 7 years needs a good inspection and batteries nearing 5 years. Open up the transfer switch and make sure all connections are clean and tight - they frequently loosen up due to vibration and heat / cold.
Best of luck - let us know how it all works out!

Do you know which type of slide mechanism was used on the 2011 and 2012 42QD? That seems the be the model we keep going back to. This will be our first coach so we are new at this, lol...
Are you happy with your QD?

Powergear in 11 and I think 12 as well. Winnie had a few years of problematic slides after that before fixing.
Ours is a 2011, original owners. 112K miles. Still like it

I have a 2015 (2014 build) Winnebago Tour 42QD.
We purchased it in 2017. The kitchen/J-Couch slide has the newer Power Gear rack and pinion floating rails. We did have a problem with one motor going "south" on us and had it fixed. The bedroom slide is a Schwintek system. The Schwintek is identified by the serpent type rail. We have not had any problem with that slide.
Which ever year you decide on read the manuals on all the equipment.
There is a very definitive procedure for operating the slides Never reverse direction except in an emergency. Always hold the retract/extend button for a minimum of 5 seconds after the slide reaches a stop to allow the motors to synchronize. Know where the override controller is located and how to use it in the case of an emergency.
Ask the previous owner when the AquaHot was last serviced. Should be every year..check to see if it works and blows hot air even if it is summer time when you buy it. Turn the thermostat up and let the AquaHot complete one cycle. If you smell diesel coming out the AquaHot exhaust or there is smoke it is an indication of a nozzle clogging up with diesel gel. If the indications are there get it serviced immediately. Here in the Houston area a house call by the AH guru is $350.
Ask questions and some one might have an answer.
We love our 2015.

We've owned our QD since brand-new and love the layout, storage capacity and ride / handling. Yes - the first year of ownership there were way too many problems (small and large). Now after 7+ years and 65K miles we haven't seen anything else worth trading into. Good luck with your search...

We have a 2013 40 u. Love the floor plan. But the large kitchen slide with the scwhtick slide has been a a major problem. We had the new slim rack put in for a replacement and that has fixed the problem. However, still cross my fingers because it does seem weak. The good part is that it gives a higher great basement storage. The bedroom slides have been no problem. Do follow the procedure above regarding holding the buttons 10 seconds or so longer when they stop. Also, have it leveled with the engine running when extending or retracting slides. Ours has wonderful cherry woodwork with high quality drawers and fittings and finish. Complete wiring and plumbing plans are available and accurate. All wires and most parts have part numbers on them. Well engineered and planned. Good luck on your endeavors.

The advantages of the 2014 42QD are as follows:
1. All LED interior lighting
2. Second PS awning
3. Safe and storage behind front TV
4. still has manual switches no Firefly system

Floor layout was a must for us. We did not want to walk into a kitchen. The reason is that if we have guests over, the Captain's chair and the Co-pilot chairs when pioted and guests are sitting in them the have to talk "thru" the kitchen to talk to anyone else.
We love the floor plan of the 42Q and also having the TV inthe slide instead of behind it when the slide is closed.
Good luck with your looking.
p.s., we don't ever want a MH where the TV drops down behind the opposing couch. Just think what you have to look at when you invite friends over to watch "the game," and they have to kneel on the couch to watch it...nope.

As noted, the Schwintek slide can be a big issue. A new company has come out with a replacement system that is much better than the Schwintek.

We are very happy with our 2015 42QD. Second owner so first owner got all the bugs out. You just can't beat the floor plan. 46k miles and still happy.
We are currently experiencing a problem with the bed lift which seems to be too common.
Use caution to not overtighten windows when closing. The gears in the cranks are delicate and cannot be replaced. Whole window replacement was over $300 each.

We have a 14 qd and love it. 65,000 miles, no problems yet with the schwintek slides. The kitchen slide will start to bind if I don't keep the rack lubed so I try to give the gibs a quick squirt monthly. The radiator expansion tank will age out, we had ours replaced last year. They had to pull the radiator to replace it so a bit of work. Overall a very reliable rig for us. Nothing on the market we'd rather have.

Use slide locks
Best thing you can do on these large slides with the schwintek slides is to use slide locks on both ends, these huge slides will not stay put just relying on those small drive gears. After I had gears replaced I used riom locks from Amazon and they worked like new for years.
I had a 2014 40U, great coach!!!
