Winnebago Vectra AC unit

I am looking at an '04 Winnebago Vectra 40'. It has a "basement " AC unit which I have no experience with. Can anyone give me info on these units? Sure makes for a clean roof but are they reliable and do a good job cooling ?

Also, it has a factory installed satellite which raises and rotates but I haven't seen one of these either. Looks like it works with Dish......??

Thanks in advance.

I have an 07 Itasca Meridian with the basement air. Love it!! I find it keeps the coach cool and much more quiet than the roof models. Now with that said major parts can be hard to find. A few years back I replaced all the capacitors (5) snd a fan bearing bushing. That required lowering the unit to work on.

I could not find the info I was looking for, but you will find alot of good information on the winnieowners fourm...https://www.winnieowners.com/forums/

Can not help on the sat dish.

Good Luck

I have an 04 Vectra. I've found the basement AC (it's also a heat pump when it's above 40 or so outside) to be fine. I've heard that it might struggle to keep up in AZ summers, but otherwise it works. There is a small standard house-type air filter that you'll want to replace every year or so, but that's about it as long as nothing has a problem. The hot/cold air from the AC/heat pump comes out the ceiling vents and the hot air from the two propane furnaces comes out the floor vents.

The roof Sat dish is useless, assuming it's the original Winegard crank-up... it's a single LNB that really isn't what you want for either Dish or DirectTV anymore as it can only be pointed at one sat at a time. I would recommend a portable dish for whichever service you get. They will either have multiple LNBs to see several sats or have a motor/software to auto switch between sats as required. Portable is also handy if you are in a site where trees block your roof antenna... you can move it around to get a clear line-of-sight when needed.

basement air and sat on roof

I have a 2005 and the air works great without the noise that the roof units have. I have a sat on the roof wineguard and it worked great for direct then I converted it for dish and it work great. Not sure why someone would say it is not good

Having had both rooftop and basement air systems, I prefer the basement because it's quiet and does a reasonable job of cooling the coach in the florida heat. There are numerous posts in this forum that discuss all the ins and outs of the system, from electrical servicing to removal and installation. Here's a fer instance... https://www.irv2.com/forums/f101/hel...it-588367.html
Hope you have happy traveling!

We had the basement air in our '06 Itasca and loved it. Two things to watch for making sure you don't block the intake grill causing restrictions and air leaks in the plenum ductwork behind the rear cap. It was super quiet both inside and outside of the coach. Worst case scenario, replacement units are still made.
