Wiring problems

1987 Winnebago elandan. 454 p30 37' long. No power to the leveling jacks. And had to replace the ignition switch. It won't start unless I put a fuse in the place for the horn. I am broke down and dont have alot of money to spend. I have done mechanical work most of my life. I had a tire come apart last night and the levelers were working. Please help. Thanks.

I will take a stab at this.. hopefully someone will chime in and bail me out.. break down your problems.. 1st levelers. The system has it's own fuse inline.. under the dash.. now that is on mine.. so check and see if you have power coming into board .. the harness in back.. on mine it's over the fuse box and very... very.. hard to get at.. you may have to use your cellphone with flash on and record all the wires and find inline fuse... 2nd fix your tire.. maybe offer to pay cash for used one.. then take flat off and put on spare .. and take flat in.. and get them to mount used tire.. and you actually install on rv.. get best you can afford.. that will save.. now.. be warned.. check the date.. reject anything older than 6yrs.. if you are lucky.. you may find one.. but tell them.. nothing too old.. look on Craigslist.. because some of us.. change out early and then sell our old take off.. 3rd.. you say when you changed ignition switch.. if you put in horn fuse.. it runs.. good.. leave it alone.. fixed ..
Good luck and keep us posted

Thank you for your response. I tried to find a good wiring diagram but I quit going In circles. So. I took out my dash! Gages and all. I also found the fuse box had gotten very hot ( before I got it) and it looked like the contacts were all melted a bit. So I took the fuse box out and found I was right. What a bunch of wires and they had been loose and dangling for some time. There was one relay under the hood above the battery was burns so bad that the bolts were holding nothing and they just left it there and wired whatever it went to on to it and I guess it might be working. The ignition switch had the brown w/white stripe spliced and ran it to a green ground that was causing a short and it was suppose to go to the fuse box power for the dash. Fixed that. I worked all day and most of the evening. I got the fuse box back in and cleaned the contacts and put it back together and put the ignition in and it started right up. The only thing different is the acc on the ignition switch doesn't have power. I found two sets of purple wires three in each set have no clue where they go but I also found the wipers dont have any wires hooked up to the motor. The wires were not attached and the fuse was out also.

I have found that Chevy uses very same eng and trans across all these lines.. so go online and order a basic automotive repair book for 87 Chevy ck2500 or ck3500 with same eng and trans.. I like both Haynes and Chilton.. you will find the wiring diagrams and troubleshooting steps.. that will get you 90% there.. Chevy kept wiring color the same.. that will save you a pile of money.. also engine and transmission parts are the same.. and there are millions of Chevy trucks in salvage yards.. and you pull yards.. I have found Chevy trucks crashed with many new parts on them.. you are like me.. anywhere I can save..
Good luck and keep us posted

In 87 Chevy ck2500 or ck3500 the fuse box is the same or very close.. Haynes and Chilton will help.. also ignition switch is prone to over heating and burning up.. rv manufacturers just put to much load on these and they burn up.. there are many posts here.. sence your rv is older.. start in workhorse section and at last page .. then read back to front.. skip until you find posts on burnt ignition switch.. there are many fixes ..
Good luck and keep us posted

This old Barth MH website has an un-sorted library of owners/service manuals, schematics and chassis manuals. I"ve seen chassis manuals for the G series and P series chassis, and then Workhorse chassis Wxx models.
That chassis manual reinforces what don103 said.
