Wondering about capabilities of generator electronic controls
My Situation: My favorite winter RV park in Arizona is a dry camping park with very restricted generator run hours (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the morning and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the evening). To keep my batteries up over an extended stay I pretty much need to run my generator during all of those hours every day. I do not want to have to manually start & stop my generator every day at the specified start and stop times and I do not want my generator to run at any other times.
My Question: Many higher-end RVs have generator auto-start features. Are any of those controls customizable as far as permitted run hours? In other words, can one specify when the auto-start feature is allowed to run the generator? I’m talking about “lock-out” times when the generator will not be allowed to start, or if already running will be forced to shut down.
Further, beyond “auto-start” which I presume is based on a pre-set drop in system voltage, are there generator controls available that simply allow the user to force the generator to start and run at all “non-locked-out” times (regardless of voltage) and then shut down when a settable “locked-out” time arrives? I also want to note that I would like to have the system do all of this on its own so that I don’t have to be present to start the generator and to stop it. Is there any control equipment available that can perform these functions? If so, do any RVs come with it built-in, or is it only available as after-market control equipment?
Finally, I do realize that the addition of a solar panel would be helpful in maintaining battery charge in my situation; however, regardless of that fact, I feel I need to optimize the use of my generator for that purpose since a solar panel will not provide a complete solution.
