04 Essex gen starter problem

I have a 04 Essex with 12500 w diesel gen,
Problem, when I try to start the gen from inside the motor home or directly from the gen it will turn then disengage a few times then sometimes it will start, even if I push the Battery boost. (The main engine turns over and starts no problem.)
What I have done.
If l put a jump battery directly on the the terminals on the back of the gen it turns over like normal and starts. I have cleaned the pos and neg terminals on the gen and the the back of the chassis fuse box under the drivers side, from there I do not know where the wires go to, is it directly to the chassis batterys or does it stop in the electrical box where the transfer switches are?
the terminals on the Chassis batterys are clean.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this?
As a side note I had a fire in the 110v transfer box before this problem, I dont think it would interfere with the 12v system.
Many thanks.
Christian.

Sounds like a ground problem for Gen start circuit.
The Gen starts from your chassis batteries and they start your engine so boost will not change anything for Gen if you use it.
You need to chase the ground leads for GEN to the chassis frame and may need the battery lead cleaned and tightened or the ground leads off start switch on dash maybe loose.
Not sure it will help you but there is a dash wiring diagram on page 20.
All the links in my signature below have links to many items for your Newmar.
