08 Dash Switch Lights

I had to rewire my day shade because the wiring got pulled out (the dog pulled it out.)

I could not find where the wires went under the dash so I ran the wires directly to the switch. It is working great!

Since digging around under the dash, I noticed that ever time I open the exit door, all of the dash switches light up.

I am not sure if I fixed something or broke something.

Does anyone know if the dash switches should light when the exit door is opened?

Thanks
-B

I don't have a MA, but this doesn't sound right to me. At least, on my 2008 KSDP, opening the door doesn't turn on dash lights. But my door is manual, not electric.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by manual, not electric.

Does the electric part refer to the fact that the door locks with a switch on the dash?

My door is just a plain old door. No electric open/close, no electric lock, nothing electric at all.

I have an 08 Dutchstar with an electric door lock/switch on the dash and a key pad outside. When I open my door, the lights on the dash do not go on. I would suggest you must have accidently mis-wired something.

You suggested correctly.

I used the night shield switch for reference and testing. When I put the dash light wires back on, they were swapped (neg to pos). I swapped them back and all is well. The switch lights come on with the headlight switch and opening the door has no effect on them.

Thanks!
