10HDKCA11506D Onan Generator

Couple of weeks ago got code 36 default. Changed out thermostat, antifreeze, air filter, cleaned radiator.
Now have fault code 1. (Engine hot) About 19 minutes from cold start, generator turns off with fault code 1. Just received in the mail a water sender unit located by the thermostat. If this part does not fix my problem, I have read the PCB control box at $600.00 is my next course of action.
Pulled the old PCB out and cleaned all connections, but PCB is a self-contained plug and play module.
Any experience or ideas welcome. Will put water sender temperature in in the morning so I will come back and inform. Just hoping to use forum to see if other options/solutions are out there for the just in case.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Sender fixed my occasional code. Be careful .... soak the threads if the sender is seized .... fairly common problem.

Put new sender in this morning, within 14 minutes got my fault code 1 again.
I am at my wits end for a solution. $250.00 for water pump and $600 for control panel.

Ideas appreciated.

Hi Terry - One thing that sometimes gets overlooked at a coolant change on this generator is to extend the fill hose as high as possible. This allows the cooling system to burp out any air. Where this problem didn't exist prior to the coolant change it is a possibility. An air bubble can stop the coolant flow and make it over heat.

Can we assume you have checked the belts. Mine were falling apart after 5 years. I also had to thoroughly clean the fan assembly because it was partially clogged with belt/dirt debris.

Tom
Yes, lifted the filler neck as high as possible. Have disregarded air now, due to even after changing antifreeze same fault code.
Thanks

Let you know tomorrow brother. No I did not check the belts. Even Onan techs did not bring up. I would guess my issue.
Thank you.

Thank you.

No fun at all on mine .... found 1 spot with the gen slide about 1/2 way out that the back cover could be rotated and removed. Mine's a 12.5kw but basically the same. Had to throw my clothes away. Do you have the service manual?

Thanks for the service manual. Once again the team effort in trying to resolve fellow RV'ers issues is awesome.
